One of the things I most enjoy in life is talking with people who have a deep relationship with God and who have walked with Him for a while. That made this week's interview with Donna King a delight for me.
Over the years, Donna has seen God's faithfulness in a variety of ways, including her work with her husband at The Sweet Refuge (El Dulce Refugio), a home for disadvantaged boys.
The ways God has guided and provided are astounding. Even the way God led Donna's husband, Wesley, to write and publish his new book, My Name Is… is a story of providence.
Life in Ministry
Years ago, God led Wesley to buy a property in Ecuador. By the time he and his family returned to Ecuador, they were unable to use the property because a nearby volcano had erupted. But when they returned, they began building their home for boys.
Throughout the years, God has continued to guide and protect them. Now their ministry is three-fold.
- The Sweet Refuge, a home for disadvantaged boys
- A church on the property
- A retreat center
And it's not just Wesley, God has also guided Donna through the years. After she lost her first husband to cancer, God comforted and guided her. He let her know that there were some changes coming. And within months she and Wesley were married.

While it's not always easy, Donna and Wesley are seeing more people come to Christ than ever before. In fact, they recently baptized 14 people.
They are now seeing people saved, healed, and delivered.
They know there's a transition ahead. That God is sending someone who can pick up the “baton” from them and run with it. But they don't know who that person is yet.God has always been on time. Click To Tweet
Also, Wesley recently published My Name Is…, which is the story of some of the boys. Donna shared just a little of what these boys went through and what God did in their lives.
- Youngest children of a Shaman who had 5 wives
- Mother abandoned them because of abuse
- Father died when they were 5 years old
- Lived alone in the jungle, fearing for their lives
- Jesus came to one of them in a dream
- God rescued them
